On November 2, Wingtech Technology announced that the company has confirmed a mass production plan with specific overseas customers, and is currently actively preparing for mass production. At the same time, in order to respond to customers’ mass production needs in a timely manner, the mass production line will be put into use in accordance with the plan negotiated with customers in the sample verification stage.
In addition, the announcement also pointed out that the sampled products need to be reviewed and verified by specific overseas customers, and there are still uncertainties in the official mass production and shipment. If it fails to pass the audit and verification of specific overseas customers, the raw materials and finished products involved in the preparation for mass production have risks such as impairment, and the target assets may suffer from asset impairment risks.
It is unanimously inferred in the industry that the above-mentioned “specific overseas customers” refers to Apple. At present, in response to the announcement released on the 2nd, the relevant person in charge of Wingtech Technology Co., Ltd. said that he would not comment.
Since 2019, Wingtech Technology has gradually launched the acquisition of Nexperia. At that time, Nexperia was the only large-scale IDM (vertically integrated model) semiconductor company in China with complete chip design, wafer manufacturing, packaging and testing, with a history of more than 60 years. In 2020, Wingtech Technology completed the acquisition of Nexperia, forming the “mobile phone ODM + semiconductor” industrial layout, and using this to develop customers in the automotive field.
The acquisition of Nexperia is an important beginning of Wingtech’s “entry” into the semiconductor industry. In 2021, Wingtech Technology will acquire OFILM’s camera module business and plan to cut into Apple’s iPhone supply chain.
Oufeiguang announced in March this year that Apple plans to terminate the cooperation with the company. After that, OFILM sought to sell related assets (the main asset is Guangzhou Delta Imaging Technology Co., Ltd.). Guangzhou Delta was originally the production base of Sony (China) Co., Ltd. in Guangzhou. Its main business is the production and sales of miniature cameras and related components. In 2017, OFILM acquired it and used it to enter Apple’s supply chain system and become the main supplier of Apple’s cameras.
On October 26 this year, Taiwanese media reported that Wingtech had successfully replaced Taiwanese factories such as Quanta and Hon Hai as the exclusive assembly plant for Apple’s new 2022 MacBook. Taiwanese Apple supply chain industry sources revealed that Wingtech Technology has already set up production lines and is currently in the initial trial production stage.
