Welcome to this edition of Wireless Wednesday. Each Wednesday NXP will bring you articles, videos, and blogs on key topics for wireless connectivity.
This week’s video shows how NXP’s MCX W71 and RW612 FRDM boards provide everything needed to create a complete Matter ecosystem, with both low power Thread mesh networking and Wi-Fi connectivity. The MCX W71 acts as a Matter with Thread device, while the RW612 acts as a single chip Thread border router, connecting the Thread network to the internet through Wi-Fi. This allows developers to create low power Thread devices, such as smart shades, sensors, and door locks, and create Wi-Fi devices with integrated Thread border router capability, including smart plugs and in home displays. Using the FRDM platform developers can quickly prototype their devices and then connect them together to simulate a Matter enabled smart home.
In the video, a FRDM-RW612 connects to an Android tablet over Matter with Wi-Fi and bridges in the Matter with Thread network. The Android tablet can then control the FRDM-MCXW71 Matter with Thread device, while being connected to only the Wi-Fi network.
