Technological developments are advancing rapidly, and engineers are demanding more and more powerful Electronic test and measurement tools to help them design and debug their systems. With the release of the new TBS2000B series oscilloscopes, Tektronix innovatively applied the patented technologies originally belonging to mid-range oscilloscopes, such as self-developed amplifier (Amplifier) chips and high-performance A/D Converter chips, to entry-level oscilloscopes for the first time. On the basic oscilloscope, it lays the foundation for the next generation of mainstream oscilloscopes to help engineers meet future challenges.
[How a basic oscilloscope with excellent performance is born and works]
Inside the TBS2000B series oscilloscopes, hundreds of high-quality precision components work together efficiently to ensure that engineers can see real, clear signals and waveform changes in detail.
The signal path of a typical oscilloscope is quite complex because the signal must pass through various components (including amplifiers, relays, filters, ADCs, etc.) before it can be processed and displayed. The design and development team for the TBS2000B has reimagined this signal path to more tightly integrate real-time signal acquisition and processing, and to ensure lower input signal noise and better signal integrity. A block diagram of the signal path of the TBS2000B Series oscilloscope, showing what happens from the signal input to the displayed waveform.
【Design Highlights of TBS2000B】
1. TekVPI probe interface and active probe support
The TekVPI probe interface sets the standard for ease of use. TBS2000B series oscilloscopes can support a variety of the latest passive, active, voltage, current and differential probes through this probe interface, covering more application requirements and meeting engineers’ test needs now and in the future. These probes are powered by the TekVPI probe interface and communicate with the TBS2000B through the interface. Scale factors and status queries (eg error conditions) are passed to the instrument for processing and Display. Engineers no longer have to manually set scale factors and calculate offsets.
2. Brand new signal input amplifier ASIC and analog-to-digital converter
General-purpose basic oscilloscopes with bandwidths below 1GHz are relatively easy to build with common commercial devices, but their performance varies. Only manufacturers with strength and pursuit of excellence will invest heavily in the development of analog front-end chipsets to achieve the performance indicators required by an oscilloscope with excellent performance. In other words, the focus of the competition for basic oscilloscopes has evolved into the competition for analog front-end chipsets.
As the world’s leading oscilloscope brand, Tektronix has always insisted on innovation to help engineers provide more convenient, faster and more accurate test and measurement equipment. Tektronix’ new TBS2000B series oscilloscopes use a specially designed pre-input amplifier TEK026 ASIC (Application-Specific Integrated Circuit) for precise measurements.
TEK026 is a very mature signal input amplifier ASIC, which has been widely used in Tektronix mid-range oscilloscopes such as MDO3000/4000 series and other star products, and its performance and reliability have been generally recognized. TEK026 cooperates with the new A/D converter chip to help TBS2000B series oscilloscopes redesign the hardware system and signal path, achieve high integration and low power consumption of key components, and core performance indicators such as 200MHz bandwidth and 2GS/s high-speed real-time sampling , and ensure lower input signal noise and better signal integrity than previous generations.

3. Clear waveform display provides excellent user experience
Compared with the 5.7-inch screen of the Tektronix TBS1000 series or the 7-inch screen of the TBS10000B series, the new 9-inch WVGA color display of the TBS2000B series provides 15 horizontal grids of high definition, 50% more display area than traditional oscilloscopes , with 5M storage depth and 10,000wfm/s waveform capture rate, it helps engineers to observe more waveform details conveniently and clearly.
