Exynos 9825 “pre-emptive”, or Snapdragon 865 “later to win”

Posted on: 11/06/2022

In 2020, 5G communication technology is about to be commercialized on a large scale, and mobile phone manufacturers have successively launched a variety of 5G smartphones, collectively waiting for the 5G tide to strike. Samsung, MediaTek, Qualcomm, and Ziguang Zhanrui have successively launched 5G mobile phone chips. Last month, Qualcomm released the Snapdragon 865 and earned enough attention from the public. It also added a “strong enemy” to the 5G mobile phone processor market. Samsung’s Exynos 9825 was released earlier. It is not inferior to the Snapdragon 865 in terms of manufacturing process and product performance.

It can be seen that Qualcomm and Samsung are secretly competing in the 5G market, and no one wants to admit defeat. Today we will compare the two chips to see which one is stronger and which is weaker?

First, let’s make an overall comparison:

Then compare each parameter of the two chips in detail:

CPU:

In terms of CPU, although the release time of Snapdragon 865 is relatively late, it gives detailed CPU information: it is still 1 super core: 2.85GHz A77, plus 3 large cores: 2.4GHz A77, Plus 4 small cores: 1.8Ghz A55, which fully represents the leading level of CPU. Look at Samsung’s Exynos 9825. Although it was released earlier, the detailed parameters have not been announced before the official launch. At present, we only know that it is similar to the previous generation with 2 M4 super-large cores, 2 A75 large cores and 4 A55 small ones. The core and frequency have not been officially released yet, which makes people worry about how much the Exynos 9825 can improve compared to the previous generation?

Manufacturing process:

The Snapdragon 865 uses a well-established 7nm process, which is a safe strategy. Compared with the Samsung Exynos 9825’s 7nm EUV manufacturing process, it is a lot weaker. In this regard, Qualcomm also officially issued a statement, saying that the choice of the 7nm process is for heat dissipation and mass production, which at least proves that Qualcomm is still capable of EUV process, but there are still many problems that cannot be solved.

Image support:

One of the main functions of mobile phones is to take pictures every day. The clarity and frame rate of the captured video is also a major indicator of the performance of the mobile phone. Both the Snapdragon 65 and Samsung’s Exynos 9825 can shoot 8K video at 30 frames per second; while the Snapdragon 865 can only shoot 4K video at 120 frames per second, Samsung’s Exynos 9825 can reach 150 frames per second Per second, it has to be said that it is slightly better.

Network speed and 5G support:

The last two indicators are put together, because at present, when it comes to network speed, we have to mention 5G. At present, neither of the two chips can independently support 5G, and they need to be equipped with other chips to complete the transmission of 5G signals. It has to be said that there is still some room for development. In terms of non-5G signals alone, the Snapdragon 865 can achieve a download rate of 7.5Gbps and an upload rate of 3.0Gbps, which is much higher than the 2Gbps download rate and 1.3Gbps upload rate of the Exynos 9825, indicating that the signal In terms of Qualcomm, it still has a deep foundation.

All in all, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 865 and Samsung’s Exynos 9825 are the top chips in 2019, and they also have their own weaknesses that need to be improved. It is hoped that newer and stronger 5G chips will be launched in 2020, so that high-performance 5G mobile phones can be realized. more powerful performance.
