Intel’s Amnon Shashua: Moovit acquisition makes sense

Posted on: 10/29/2022

We are very excited to welcome Moovit to the Intel family. Moovit is one of the world’s well-known transportation applications. It collects data from many partners and customers in the transportation field. It has more than 800 million users in more than 3,100 cities in 102 countries around the world, and can collect more than 6 billion related traffic every day. data on conditions and user needs, and serve more than 7,500 public transport operators. This is an amazing achievement!

Intel’s Amnon Shashua: Moovit acquisition makes sense

Prof. Amnon Shashua

You must be asking, why did Intel acquire Moovit? Because it’s the final piece of the puzzle in Intel subsidiary Mobileye’s grand blueprint.

Mobileye is Intel’s main force in the future of transportation. The future of mobility is inseparable from computing, and a lot of it. Mobileye designs the highest-density, most efficient chips; creates cutting-edge AI algorithms that interpret sensor data from cameras, radar and lidar; and creates safety models for decision-making algorithms in autonomous vehicles.

To date, nearly 60 million vehicles are equipped with our chips and algorithms, and our leading driver assistance systems are preventing traffic accidents, reducing injuries and saving lives every day.

In the future, Moovit’s technology will be integrated into Mobileye’s Mobility-as-a-Service (MaaS) business. It is predicted that by 2030, the market size of MaaS will reach 160 billion US dollars. At present, we have established cooperative relationships with partners around the world, and plan to launch MaaS landing services from 2022.

The reason why we have invested so much in researching this business is to promote the formation of the value chain, so as to solve the social and economic pain points of the urban transportation system, and integrate autonomous driving into the existing urban transportation network.

Mobility as a Service (MaaS) stack

We developed a multimodal XaaS strategy to allow Intel to deliver value propositions for every layer of the solution stack through Mobileye and its latest acquisition, Moovit, from standalone autonomous systems to robo-taxi services and experiences. It’s a very delicate strategy, one that’s unique compared to any other company in the space.

The first key asset is mobility intelligence based on data-driven real-time supply and demand insights, introducing autonomous driving like surgery through multiple service modes such as origin-to-destination, first-kilometer-last-kilometer, and dynamically routed shuttles technology.

The second key asset is the transport operator’s operational expertise, which will be fully leveraged through a collaborative go-to-market model. Two classic models include Vehicle-as-a-Service (VaaS) and Ride-as-a-Service (RaaS). Specifically, RaaS enables current service operators to “quickly acquire” autonomous driving mobility solutions to meet needs that their existing services cannot meet; VaaS is a further integrated model, in which we provide specialized of autonomous vehicles and shuttle fleets, and integrating them with mobility intelligence software into transport operators’ backbone networks and dispatch centers will ensure that funds are well spent.

With the acquisition of Moovit, we add another key piece of the puzzle to our mobility business, which will allow Mobileye to rapidly become a full-scale mobility service provider. In addition to the obvious value that Moovit can bring to the data and user base, Moovit also has the underlying assets, related capabilities and partner network, which allows us to launch affordable and demand-optimized autonomous driving almost anywhere in the world. travel service.

Like Mobileye, the acquired Moovit will operate independently as an Intel subsidiary to continue to drive its core business forward. Joining Intel enables Mobileye to expand its business into the wider field of autonomous driving beyond computer vision; now, we will help Moovit to dream bigger, run towards higher goals, and work with Moovit to create a better tomorrow for road traffic revolution .
