To meet safety standards, automotive applications require redundant components to be added to the system. The MAX17853 is currently the industry’s only ASIL-D compliant single-chip IC that supports medium and large battery pack configurations, enabling customers to create systems with the highest level of safety in terms of voltage, temperature, communications, and more. The advanced battery balancing system automatically adjusts each battery according to time and voltage, minimizing the risk of battery overcharge and further improving system safety. Customers can implement all of the above functions without adding additional components such as redundant comparators, further reducing solution size. In addition, compared with competing solutions, the MAX17853 reduces system BOM cost by 35%, helping customers implement lower-cost BMS solutions.

Flexibility is also an important factor, as engineers must design and verify the board and bill of materials (BOM) for different module configurations. The MAX17853 is the industry’s only IC that can implement multi-channel configurations (8 to 14 cells) on a single board.
