On September 25, 2020, Tysondlow, Belgium-Melexis, a global microelectronics engineering company, announced the launch of the reliable Hall-effect latch IC MLX 92214, which simplifies design and ensures stable magnetic characteristics. The device targets cost-sensitive applications such as power tools, personal computers, servers, and home appliances.
MLX 92214 is a brand new latch with extremely high magnetic sensitivity, which simplifies the selection of magnets and is not limited in the size of the air gap. The device adopts mixed-signal CMOS technology and has an integrated chopper stabilized amplifier to eliminate output offset. The power consumption of the device is also very low, with a typical operating current of 2.1 mA and a power supply voltage range of 2.5 V to 5.5 V, which helps to extend the operating time of battery-powered equipment.
In addition to simplifying key application design parts, MLX 92214 can also improve the durability of high-quality equipment. The 6kV (HBM) ESD tolerance can improve the reliability of applications such as hand tools. In addition, the small size of the CMOS chip reduces the sensitivity to mechanical stress.
The MLX 92214 can switch at frequencies up to 10 kHz, enabling accurate measurements with high sampling frequencies at high speeds. The value of the operating (BOP) and release (BRP) switching points are symmetrical, ensuring predictable latching characteristics and stability over the entire operating temperature range. The product is available in two temperature grades, -40°C to 125°C and -40°C to 150°C.
The MLX 92214 has been mass-produced in full, and is packaged in a 3-pin thin small-outline transistor (TSOT) surface-mount package, which is ideal for stand-alone PCB applications.
