Microchip Expands Adaptec SmartRAID Portfolio with New Entry-Level Adapters

To meet cloud, enterprise and workstation customers’ requirements for hardware RAID robustness and performance at entry-level costs, Microchip Technology Inc. announced the Adaptec® SmartRAID 3100E RAID adapter designed for cost-sensitive end applications of customer data with reliable hardware RAID protection. Compared with Microchip’s previous-generation Adaptec 8E series products, the SmartRAID 3100E has more than 60% performance improvement and 40% lower power consumption. The Adaptec SmartRAID 3100E series is part of Microchip’s existing production release PCIe Gen 3 SAS-3/SATA SmartRAID 3100 adapter family. The new SmartRAID 3100E adapter is ideal for systems that want application acceleration with cache support and entry-level enterprise RAID data protection without the added cost of cache protection or a full-featured RAID adapter for advanced RAID levels.

SmartRAID 3100E adapters share common smart storage deployment tools such as Adaptec maxView storage manager and new open source, software-defined storage plug-ins.

Product availability

The Adaptec SmartRAID 3100E Series Board Level Adapters are now in volume production. Two new devices supporting hardware RAID levels 0, 1 and 10, the 3102E-8i and 3101E-4i, provide data reliability and performance acceleration for up to eight and four directly connected devices, respectively.
