Eindhoven, the Netherlands-May 13, 2020-NXP semiconductors NV (NASDAQ: NXPI) today announced the launch of a new ultra-low power, multi-protocol wireless microcontroller (MCU) Series K32W061/41. The new low-power devices complement the company’s recently launched pin compatible JN5189/88 (Thread™/Zigbee®) and QN9090/30 (Bluetooth® LE) MCUs, bringing easier migration for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) Path to help them support existing and emerging smart homes and build use cases.
Reducing the power consumption of today’s smart home and IoT devices is critical to maximizing the performance of single-button batteries. The NXP K32W061/41 MCU achieves this through multiple low-power modes and low transmit/receive radio power consumption capabilities.
Tom Pannell, Senior Marketing Director of NXP Connectivity Solutions, said: “With the continuous increase in the available wireless technologies, the demand for ultra-low power connections in smart homes continues to grow. NXP launched a new multi-protocol wireless microcontroller, Our technology product portfolio and expertise help original equipment manufacturers to easily design reliable, feature-rich BLE, Zigbee and Thread IoT devices to provide ultra-low power consumption performance for interconnected applications.”
K32W061 and K32W041 use IEEE 802.15.4 radio, support Thread and Zigbee network protocols, Bluetooth low energy 5.0 and integrated NFC NTAG® (K32W061). The device also supports a wide operating temperature range (-40°C to +125°C). As one of the founding members of the Zigbee Alliance and Thread Group, the co-founder of the NFC Forum and a member of the Bluetooth SIG, NXP makes full use of wireless expertise and extensive MCU capabilities to integrate the latest connectivity standards and appropriate smart peripherals. These peripherals support a variety of use cases, including:
·Home and building automation
·Security and access control
·Smart thermostat and door lock
·Gateway and sensor network applications
The K32W061/41 wireless microcontroller device uses an Arm® Cortex®-M4 microcontroller running at 48MHz, and has up to 640 KB of on-chip flash memory and 152 KB of SRAM, which can provide complex applications and software over-the-air updates (OTA) Storage space and flexibility. The optional NFC NTAG provides standardized out-of-band communication, which greatly simplifies the pairing process. The multi-protocol radio includes an integrated power amplifier with an output of up to +11dBm, enabling long-distance transmission. In addition, it also supports Bluetooth low energy 5.0, Zigbee and OpenThread wireless network protocol stacks.
