ccording to foreign media reports, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and the US space exploration technology company SpaceX are planning to conduct their first manned flight in mid-to-late May this year. On Wednesday, local time, NASA and SpaceX released media certification invitations for their “Demo Mission 2” (aka Demo-2) commercial crewed launch. The invitation indicates that NASA and SpaceX are currently aiming to conduct the Demo-2 crewed mission no earlier than mid-to-late May and conduct final end-to-end testing of SpaceX’s manned spaceflight system and Crew Dragon spacecraft.
According to reports, SpaceX will use the Crew Dragon spacecraft to transport two American astronauts to the International Space Station (ISS). According to previously announced information, the two astronauts are Bob Behnken and Doug Hurley.
This will be the first time the two astronauts have flown to space on a SpaceX spacecraft and the first crewed mission of the commercial crew program.
21IC noted that on January 19 not long ago, SpaceX successfully completed the Crew Dragon escape system test. At that time, the Dragon spacecraft carrying the dummy astronauts took off with the help of the SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket. Two minutes after the launch, the Dragon spacecraft successfully flew away from the rocket with the dummy, and the rocket exploded immediately, forming a huge fireball in the air, which was caught by netizens. They dubbed it “the most expensive fireworks”. You must know that the escape test is the most critical part of responding to a rocket launch accident. With this successful test, NASA and SpaceX can make up their minds to conduct a real manned flight.
