The first “5G + cloud + AI” smart monitoring commercial project in China

Posted on: 02/14/2022

With the continuous development of cloud computing and Internet of Things technologies, various high-end technology products are being continuously applied to the management of cities. Smart city is an advanced form of urban informatization that fully utilizes the new generation of information technology in all walks of life in the city based on the next-generation innovation (innovation 2.0) of the knowledge society. “urban diseases”, improve the quality of urbanization, achieve refined and dynamic management, and improve the effectiveness of urban management and improve the quality of life of citizens.

Recently, the reporter saw in Chengdu City, Sichuan Province, that a patrol vehicle using “5G + cloud + AI” technology was driving on the Second Ring Road elevated, monitoring the road surface in real time, and quickly showing the road surface condition through 4K ultra-high-definition video. It will be sent back to the monitoring big screen of the Daoqiao Supervision Service Center of Chengdu Urban Management Committee (hereinafter referred to as “Chengdu Daoqiao Supervision Center”). Through 5G slicing technology, cloud storage and computing power, and AI analysis capabilities, Chengdu Road and Bridge Supervision Center can quickly identify major road diseases such as subsidence, water accumulation, potholes, cracks, damage, and network cracks.

Like other cities across the country, before the digital upgrade, the Chengdu Road and Bridge Supervision Center mainly relied on manual daily inspections to identify road diseases, and manually dispatched orders for repairs after diseases were found. However, manual inspections have many disadvantages. First, the ability to manually identify diseases is weak and the recognition degree is not high. Judging diseases through experience is often not timely enough. When they are actually discovered, it is likely to have developed from a small problem to a serious problem. Secondly, the maintenance cycle of manual ordering is long, and many roads can only be constructed at night, and it takes three days to complete at the earliest, which poses a potential safety hazard. In order to promote the integrated application of 5G in the field of urban management, further improve the level and efficiency of bridge maintenance management, and promote the refinement, intelligence and professionalism of road and bridge maintenance work, Chengdu Road and Bridge Supervision Center cooperated with China Telecom Tianyi Cloud in July this year. , released the first domestic “5G + cloud + AI” smart monitoring commercial project.

In fact, with the continuous expansion of cities, many problems are plaguing urban management. The integration and application of these new technologies has undoubtedly injected new information and intelligent elements into urban governance. In the tide of smart city construction, telecommunications Operators have become an indispensable link. Feng Tao, smart city industry director of China Telecom Chengdu Branch, said that as a “national team” in the field of cloud services, China Telecom’s Tianyi Cloud has long been ready. He said that China Telecom has 80% to 90% or even higher geographical coverage in the country, and has the network conditions to support various smart cities. At the same time, China Telecom Tianyi Cloud, together with its partners, can provide a complete set of smart city solutions from planning, consulting, migration and service. In addition, China Telecom has also integrated network technologies such as optical fiber network, wireless network, Internet of Things and satellite network, and established a ubiquitous urban perception network that integrates the sky, the ground and the air, and integrates the cloud and the network, so that the city’s infrastructure has a comprehensive perception. Ability.

As one of the six 5G pilot cities in the country, China Telecom Chengdu has completed the full coverage of the 5G network on the Chengdu Second Ring Road. Benefiting from this advantage, and taking advantage of the low latency and high bandwidth of 5G network, Tianyi Cloud uploads the 4K video of road and bridge identification at high speed, avoiding the situation of stuck, dropped frames, and smearing, ensuring AI analysis in the later stage. And cloud computing can receive accurate data in a timely manner. After receiving the data, through the massive computing power provided by Tianyi Cloud, the established disease identification model can be quickly identified. For example, if a bridge exceeds the limit, the bridge health detection system will automatically prompt and warn of risks, and at the same time analyze the system data to generate corresponding analysis reports.

Finally, the disease information such as stagnant water and cracks is sent back through the information sending system, and is directly pushed to the maintenance personnel through the automatic order dispatch system. closed loop. Fan Xinghua, chief of the Information Management Section of Chengdu Daoqiao Supervision Center, said that after more than a year of use, the project has received good results. On September 13 this year, it rained heavily in Chengdu, and it was installed at an intelligent water-recognizing point on the Qingshuihe Bridge. It detected the appearance of water in time, and quickly sent back the measured water area and other data to On the screen of the monitoring hall of the Chengdu Road and Bridge Supervision Center, the obstacle was cleared for the safe passage of Qingshuihe Bridge.

“In the past, we needed to send people to the site to inspect the site and find out the larger and more stagnant water before disposing. Now, the ‘5G + cloud + AI’ smart monitoring technology can not only automatically find problems, but also quickly judge It is a big breakthrough to get rid of the stagnant water area.” Fan Xinghua said that the center plans to discuss with Tianyiyun to build more cooperation scenarios. Industry insiders said that the informatization of urban bridge health monitoring and inspection is an important part of building a smart city, but it is only a specific application of 5G. In the future, the combination of 5G and new technologies such as big data and artificial intelligence can also play a greater role in other aspects of smart city management such as garbage classification, sanitation facilities, and manhole cover supervision.
