The automotive industry has undergone tremendous changes in the past century, but the use of the smart headlight system of automobiles has remained basically unchanged since it was invented. However, with the advent of adaptive high beam (ADB) technology, this trend has begun to change.
At Texas Instruments (TI), we understand that ADB solutions may have disruptive potential for the future of the automotive industry. Therefore, we combine our deep expertise in automotive technology with TI DLP®Combining pioneering technologies in technology to develop a new generation of intelligent headlight systems that make them more powerful, not just limited to shooting a beam of light in a certain direction.
We believe that it can bring additional functions to the way vehicles illuminate the road ahead. At present, we are developing a new type of fully programmable smart headlamp system solution with extremely high resolution, and each smart headlamp has more than 1 million addressable pixels, which is compared with the existing ADB The resolution of the technology is 10,000 times higher.
Using TI DLP technology, developers can create lighting solutions that can be programmed to perform operations such as bullets and animations, or convert light beams to fit the curves of hills and roads. Customers can also develop solutions to partially or fully dim each pixel, so that the driver can always turn on the high beams when operating the vehicle under any conditions without affecting other drivers.
Most importantly, thanks to the flexibility of DLP technology, these smart headlights can use LED or laser light sources for illumination, and consume less power while having the same coverage as existing ADB solutions.
The driving factor leading this development is that automakers and suppliers are seeking technology companies like TI to help them differentiate their products. We are very proud of TI’s existing portfolio of automotive solutions and look forward to sharing more details about the new generation of high-resolution smart headlight systems with the industry as soon as possible.
At present, many customers have begun to use our DLP technology to sample and design high-resolution intelligent headlight systems. The high-resolution DLP5531-Q1 chipset was also launched in 2018.
